Mulberry Wood Christmas Cracker

Morning all I hope that your weather is better than ours, the thunder and lightning was awful this morning. I have been asked about the Christmas Cracker that I made for the launch of the Mulberry Wood collection from Crafters Companion so I thought that today I would share it with you. For the crackers I used the die cut and scored Paula's Crackers from Whichcraft, click here for the link.  Because the card base was white I used Tim Holtz distress Ink Broken China, which you can buy from Crafters Companion and decorated the very edges with some glitter. For the panels I used some of the Core-dinations card and a sheet of backing paper and some of the small tags from the Mulberry Wood CD. I then tied some matching ribbon around the ends of the cracker and decorated it with some snowflakes again using the core-dinations card from Crafters Companion and for the centres I used some of the Candi from Craftworks cards

Project for Peek-a-Boo/Shutter card - Mulberry Wood

Here is the Peek-a-Boo card project using the Crafters Companion Hunkydory kit from the Mulberry Wood collection as promised. I first made this card a couple of years ago, I got the idea from a magazine unfortunately I can't remember which one but thought that the Mulberry Wood images would be perfect for it. This is a beautiful kit and if you would like to purchase it, then pop over to Crafters Companion.

Things you will need :

Hunkydory Mulberry Wood kit from Crafters Companion
Ultimate Pro and boxer board
Scoring Tool
Glue
Speelbinder die standard circle
low tack tape
manual die cutting machine
2 small bows
Foam pads

1. I chose a piece of the A4 card stock with borders along each side. Using your Ultimate Pro butt your card stock up to the edge of the Ultimate pro and score along the A4 gatefold line. Turn your cardstock 180 degrees and score the same line again. Burnish using your bone folder.

2. Take some coordinating card stock and mat and layer onto the 3 inside panels of your card.

3. Cut a piece of cardstock 10 cm x 21cm, for this I chose a piece of cardstock with a character to give a bit more of a focal feature.

4. Next chose your image for the peekboo-a-Boo, I chose one of the large round images so that I could cut out my aperture using a spelldinder die. From the top of your piece of card measure down 3cm and using low tack tape stick your spell binders die in place and cut out using your die cutting machine.

5. Now cut a piece of matching cardstock to measure 24.5cm by 9.5 cm and cut in half. on one piece of your card mark the centre point and then measure 5cm down. On the back of your cardstock draw a V shape as shown. Now place both pieces of card on top of each other and cut out the V shape. Using your boxer board on the straight edge of both your pieces of card measure and score at 1.5cm across and burnish

6.Firstly to line up your image place this underneath your piece of card with the aperture cut out. Remove your piece of card  and I would then mark this with a pencil line before lifting the image off the card to put the glue on, you will not see the pencil mark as it will be covered up.  Then glue into place.

6. To line up the peek-a-boo mechanism , place your image under the cut out aperture ( do not glue this piece of card at this stage ) and slide in your 2 pieces of card with the V shape cut out at either side, with the folded flaps lined up flush to the left hand edge of your outer panels. When you have them lined up correctly place a small pencil at the top of each piece of V shape card so that when you glue these down you have a guide. Remove your piece of card with the aperture cut out and put to one side. Now for this I used a wet glue as it just you a bit of movement when lining up. I have crossed the V shapes over each other so that when it opens it looks like a camera shutter, now glue these into place just on the folded flaps and gently close you card to make sure that the mechanism works, as at this stage whilst the glue is still wet you can adjust them. When everything is ok let them dry.

7. Place glue just along the top and bottom of your piece of card that has the aperture cut out and stick over your shutter mechanism.

8. To decorate the two inside panels I used two small tags from the kit and two small matching bows.

9. For the front of your card, chose two toppers from the kit and place foam pads on part of the back as shown. Attach to the left hand side front panel.

I hope that you enjoyed making this card as much as I have.

The ‘Christmas in Mulberry Wood’ range (including six stamps, co-ordinating CD-ROM and two papercrafting collections by Hunkydory) will be Pick of the Week on Create & Craft from Midday on Friday!

To celebrate the launch, Crafter's Companion have organised a Blog Hop around some of the Design Team's blogs! If you have landed here from Beth's blog then you are hopping in the right direction. If not then you need to pop over to the Crafter’s Companion News blog to begin.

Tutorial Double Fold Pop Out Card - A-May-Zing Christmas

Hi, I posted this card a few weeks ago and I thought I would share the tutorial with you as I have used the new A-May-Zing Christmas CD from the lovely Nigel May, and I am so proud to be part of his design team. So here goes :

Items used:

5 A4 sheets of Centura Pear Card
Nigel Mays Amaz-zing Christmas CD
pencil and ruler
craft knife and cutting mat
Bone Folder
Collal Glue
2 sheets of 3d toppers
5 sheets of backing paper
1 A4 insert with verse
4 sheets of A4 mirri board
spellbinders dies
martha stewart punch
gems from my crafting stash
about half a metre of thin ribbon
1 sheet of printed borders
2 sheets of image toppers

1. Print your choosen design onto your 2 sheets of Centura Pearl card and trim to 27.5cm x 20cm. Now fold this is half and then fold each section in half again and burnish all folds. Turn your card over so that the printed side is facing down and in the two centre panels starting at the top measure and place a small mark at the following intervals, 1", ½" , 1", ½" , 1", ½", 1" , ½" and 1". Now using your craft knife and cutting matt, cut these lines on the two centre panels only. Now starting at the top fold your first panel using a valley fold, the next fold using a mountain fold and carry on in this manner into all panels have been folded. Burnish all your folds.

2. Take two pieces of your white Centura Pearl card and trim to measure 27.5cm x 20cm. Now fold in half and then fold one section in half again. Now trim off one of the small panels and fold and burnish along the half fold line. Do exactly the same with your second piece of card. Now taking one of these pieces of card and one of your pieces of card with the cut out panels ,place the two smaller panels side by side, you will see I have marked these A & B. Now place the B panel over the A panel and stick together using a wet glue, as this makes it easier to get in the right place. Do the same with your second two pieces of card and let to dry.

3. Now turn both these pieces over so that the pattern side is facing down and butt the cut out panels together, join these with strips of double sided tape to keep in place. Cut two pieces of white Centura Pearl card 5.5" x 7⅞", now glue one of these over the two panels you have just butted together , this will hide the join and do the same of the reverse side. BEFORE YOU GLUE THESE INTO PLACE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CARD WILL FOLD, BECAUSE IF THEY ARE SLIGHTLY TOO WIDE IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE CARD TO CLOSE PROPERLY.

4. The next step is to make up the front two front panels, I have made both mine the same but that is just personal choice. Glue these onto your two front panels.

5. Now to work on the inside. For the two smaller panels inside use two of the borders from the CD and matt and layer these onto some mirri board.

6. To decorate the larger two panels on the inside, mat and layer your baking paper onto some mirri card and place a gem into each corner. Print out a sheet of image toppers and chose A5 size. I used a larger topper and two smaller ones mat and layered again onto mirri board. Now make another one of these and glue these onto the inside panels of your card.

7. Now chose your insert and verse for the card and print this as A4 size. Trim to fit the centre of your card and glue into place.

I hope that you enjoy making this card as much as I did, but if you have any questions please just ask.

Thanks for looking xxx
